Three Good Reasons Why Outsourcing Your Company's Information Destruction Needs Is Best
Every organization possesses information that needs to be destroyed for the purpose of preventing the misuse of it. The progression of technology and ever-increasing demand to obtain information faster and easier makes for an even greater need for organizations to properly manage and secure information. This article lists three good reasons why organizations should consider exporting document shredding duties to experienced information destruction professionals:
1. In-house file destruction is costly and dangerous!
The risks involved with keeping document destruction needs within the company walls can be potentially detrimental. Depending on the industry and situation – the improper disposal of information can lead to severe punishment by law, up to $50 000, for compromising important client or business information. Moreover, the proper safeguards for implementing in-house information destruction needs are costly due to equipment expenses and maintenance and the added employee training requirements (not to mention the implications of employee injury). In-house document destruction does not eliminate the possibility for employees to voluntarily compromise information either (which is an increasing concern for organizations).
2. Shredding Companies have the access and know-how to recycle and reuse discarded information into great things!
The information destruction industry is one that has experienced its most growth within the past five years. One of the reasons is the ecological benefits that properly discarded paper, files and hardware can provide to our everyday needs like paper, paper towel and toilet paper (to name a few). Organizations can feel good about their recycling practises while maintaining proper file security measures.
3. The economic woes unfortunately pose an even greater threat to organizations that are careless!
What is just as bad as having vulnerable information compromised? Besides the obvious task of information recovery and – depending on the industry – dealing with the auditing process; organizations are left to wonder how it happened.
Anything from daily memos, travel plans, phone contacts, receipts, proposals and RFP submissions are considered ‘gold’ in the mind of the culprit. Who’s to say that the culprit doesn’t work for you? Simply put – in a time of economic desperation, companies are (more than ever) subject to potential information theft. A filthy dumpster isn’t enough to drive away even the most dedicated thieves or investigators.
